She shares her favorite sunscreens, shaving essentials, scrubs and more to help us find the best skin care products on the market. You may be spending most of your time practicing social distancing, but Marmur stresses the importance of getting some fresh air when you can — and wearing sunscreen. “You need to go out and get some fresh air every day. Coronavirus worry triggers most surgical mask, sanitizer prices to spike at least 50% on Amazon

PHILADELPHIA– Amazon may monitor its marketplace for price gouging, but a new analysis by U.S. PIRG Education Fund has revealed that these checks don’t always succeed in preventing significant price hikes. With so many people worried about Coronavirus, the consumer advocacy organization looked at the prices for two types of increasingly popular products: hand sanitizers and surgical masks.  Researchers compared the average price for those items over three months to the high price on Amazon since the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency on January 30. As the outbreak became more widespread, the price of most of the sanitizers and masks rose at least 50 percent higher than the 90-day average. Even one in six products sold directly by Amazon — not third-party vendors using the online marketplace — saw prices rise at least 50 percent higher in February, as Americans became more aware of the Coronavirus. “When people need something to stay healthy and prevent the spread of a potentially-deadly virus, merchants should follow the Golden Rule, not the money,” said  U.S. PIRG Education Fund Consumer Watchdog Adam Garber.  Thousands of Americans h...

Chicago, IL – December 19, 2019 – Stocks in this week’s article are Universal Forest Products, Inc. UFPI, ACM Research, Inc. ACMR, Celsius Holdings, Inc. CELH, Sony Corp. SNE and LexinFintech Holdings Ltd. LX. Investors always look for companies with a high level of profitability regardless of the market condition. In this context, profitability analysis is used to identify a profitable company over a loss-making one. Profitability analysis is the best tool to measure the ability of the company to offer sturdy returns to investors even after meeting all its operating and non-operating costs. Here, we have used the concept of accounting ratios to evaluate a company’s profitability. There is a variety of profitability ratios, from which we have chosen the most successful and frequently used profitability metric to determine the bottom-line performance of a company. Net income ratio gives us the exact profitability level of a company. It reflects the percentage of net income to total sales revenues. Using net income ratio, one can determine a company’s effectiveness to meet operating and non-operating expenses from revenues. A higher net income ratio usually implies a company...

Pediatric Hospitalists at the Front Line of Gun Violence Prevention: Every Patient Encounter Is an Opportunity to Promote Safe Gun Storage

Pediatric hospitalists have a critical role to play in the prevention of firearm death and injury in children. Gun violence is the second leading cause of death for children and adolescents.1 Just over half of these deaths are homicide, with the remaining attributed to suicide and unintentional shootings. There are more child deaths from gun violence than child deaths from cancer, heart disease, and lung disease combined.1 These startling statistics should urge all pediatricians to act, including those invested in the care of hospitalized children. This uniquely American problem is driven, in part, by access to unsecured firearms. In America, 4.6 million children live in a household with at least 1 loaded, unlocked gun.2 Access to unsecured firearms puts children at risk for unintentional shootings and adolescents at risk for suicide.3 Responsible storage (keeping guns locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition) can decrease these risks.3 The majority of children in gun-owning households are aware of where their parents store the gun, with more than one-third reporting previously handling the gun.4 We cannot rely on curious children to not find a gun that is “hidden” or ...

Do You Sleep Well? Tips on Getting the Amount of Sleep a Body Needs

How did you sleep last night? If you got less than seven hours, the centers for disease control and prevention says you are “sleep deprived”. And that’s the case for more than a third of americans. Taking a hot bath, drinking warm milk, sleeping with a fan on – suggestions about getting a good night’s sleep seem to be endless. Which sleep tips actually work, and which ones don’t? When it comes to a good night’s sleep, there are lots of questions and the right answers are not the same for everyone. One common question is, what’s better, sleeping in a warm room or a cold one? Northlanders we interviewed had varying answers. “I need a cold room to sleep,” one UMD college student told us. “It’s easier for me to fall asleep. I feel uncomfortable if I’m too hot but when I’m cold I can just cover up.” Depending on on what you consider cold, Janet Kennedy, a clinical psychologist told us, “The optimal sleep temperature is between 68 and 72 degrees, because the body temperature lowers as you are falling asleep. If the room is too hot it can make the body too hot and make it harder to fall asl...

Kohl’s Black Friday 2019: Here Are The Best Deals

Instantly capturing attention is the size of Kohl’s Black Friday ad. At 64-pages, it’s a monster with a massive range of deals. Less impressive, however, is the shipping policy with the store requiring a $50 minimum spend for free delivery. That said, almost all the top deals will require you to spend more than $50.  These deals will not go live until November 25 but do not forget them because they are some of the best you will find during Black Friday 2019: Once again Kohl’s is really standing out from its rivals thanks to Kohl’s Cash. As such it is likely to have the top Xbox, Switch, PS4 Slim, Google Nest and Beats Black Friday deals this year. Kohl’s will also beat Amazon’s best deals on its own products when Kohl’s Cash is involved.  The only disappointing omissions the lack of a PS4 Pro deal (perhaps it will come for Cyber Monday) and any further TV offers, though this shows Kohl’s current live sales are the real deal right now.  Looking for more Black Friday live deals? Check out my store-by-store Black Friday live sales for Amazon’s best deals, Walmart’s best deals, Best Buy’s best deals, Costco’s best deals and my roundups of the top live Apple deals and ...

Apple HomeKit is a great hub for all of your smart devices that’s built right in to iOS. Rather than have to control everything from several apps, you have one central location to activate lights, control smart cameras and more.  Once you get a place of your own with a couple of bedrooms, there’s even more options for HomeKit smart devices. Rather than have to make sure you’re not getting anything that won’t come with you when you move (though there are still portable smart items on this list), you can permanently install smart systems that all work with a simple “Hey Siri.”   One of the easiest ways to build a new smart home is with a Philips Hue light kit. The smart bulbs work with HomeLink via the hub. What’s nice about the hub is that it’s a one-time investment. After you have one, you can control up to 50 bulbs. So what can you do with all those smart bulbs? Well, you can set u...

Dell laptops are typically popular for being solidly built and reasonably priced. But at the highest end, what sets Dell models apart from each other is performance. For consumers, the top-of-the-line Dell models are the XPS series, which typically include newer processing chips, more RAM and hard drive space, and occasionally better graphics processing. But there is one level higher: Dell’s Alienware. The company bought the boutique gaming laptop manufacturer Alienware in 2006, but the line has still enjoyed a fair amount of freedom in terms of specs and how its laptops are built. Dell’s Alienware laptops are not intended to be portable. Instead, they’re workhorse machines for video games, video editing, and other graphics-processor-intensive tasks. I’ve seen traditional offices in which Alienware laptops are used for resource-hogging tasks, with pieces of tape and stickers used to...

Female farmer sells agricultural products via online shop in China’s Heilongjiang

Li Chencan (C) poses for a photo with packed sauce and pickles at the courtyard of a workshop in Xingbei Village of Wanfa Township in Bayan County, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, Aug. 30, 2019. Li Chencan, a farmer born in the 1980s in Xingbei Village, opened an online shop with the help of her family members in 2014 to sell agricultural products produced in northeast China. To expand the online market, Li not only learned the methods of operating and maintaining online shops on her own, but also hired local farmers to better manage the shop and inked agreements with impoverished households to increase the product categories. Supported by the local government, Li’s online shop has generated more than one million yuan (about 140,603 U.S. dollars) last year. In addition to selling over 200 categories of edible products online, she also launched a food processing workshop covering an area of about 300 square meters. In the future, Li plans to build more food producing and processing facilities and develop featured products related to home cooking and healthy diets with local female e-commerce entrepreneurs. Purdue University Introduces Replica Shirt Featured on Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Show

Atlanta, Ga. (September 18, 2019) – Purdue University, working in conjunction with CLC, its exclusive trademark licensing agent, has introduced a special-edition, replica Purdue shirt that appeared on an episode of Netflix’s “Stranger Things 3” this past summer.  During the Independence Day weekend episode of the show, one of the characters wore a light blue, ’80s style, short-sleeve Purdue shirt, which quickly created a social media buzz with Boilermakers excited to see Purdue merchandise featured on the popular show. Since the airing of the show, the Purdue Trademarks and Licensing Department has been working with CLC and Purdue licensee, Venley, to replicate the unique product that bears the vintage Purdue Pete logo on the left sleeve and Purdue in gold across the chest. “After much anticipation from Boilermaker fans, we are so excited to finally be able to offer the Purdue-branded shirt that was featured on ‘Stranger Things,’” said Erika Austin, Purdue’s manager of trademarks and licensing. “Venley did a remarkable job replicating the shirt from scratch. We appreciate their efforts in developing this special product for our fans.” The shirt will be carried at the Purdue Team...

HBO Will Release Series to Challenge the MCU & Disney+

With Disney+ coming soon — and set to inundate MCU enthusiasts with content spanning across their favorite comic book characters — the streaming platform has virtually cornered the market on superhero TV. While Netflix boasts The Umbrella Academy and the CW retains its set of easily digestible superhero stories, Disney+ will be on a different level — with silver screen supers set to steal the small screen.  From WandaVision and Hawkeye to She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fans will be able to endlessly binge these shows, jumping from one to the next, as they follow multiple interweaving narratives, all contributing to what’s destined to become the most impactful cross-conversation between cinema and home-entertainment ever.  Will Disney+ become the new Netflix; will Amazon prime and Hulu suffer under the weight of unsurmountable competition? Maybe, but there’s one premium channel taking a significant stand — with a superhero soiree all its own. HBO is currently developing a series, set to premiere in October that, if executed with finesse, may take some superhero spotlight from the media behemoth that is Marvel. The question is: who will be watching the W...
